Fasting the lunar month of Ramadan is such an important Pillar of Islam that Muslims believe that missed fasts are a debt owed to Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

Muslims believe that the influence of the devils on the believers who obey Allah is diminished during Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

Month of the Qur’an

Muslims believe that the first verses of the Qur’an (Surat Al-`Alaq 96:1-5) were revealed in the month of Ramadan while the Prophet Muhammad was in spiritual retreat in the cave of Hira’ outside of Makkah. Years later when the fast of Ramadan was made compulsory, the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) used to sit with the Prophet Muhammad every day during Ramadan so that the latter could recite all that had been revealed so far of the Qur’an. In his final year, the Prophet recited the entire Qur’an twice in Ramadan.

Muslims continue the tradition of reading the entire Qur’an at least once during Ramadan. In Muslim countries, it is not at all unusual in this month to see many people reading the Qur’an while riding the bus or metro to and from work. Others find time early in the morning, late at night, or at intervals throughout the day.

Many others read or recite the Qur’an during Tarawih Prayers, which are held only during Ramadan, or in private late night Prayers called Tahajjud.

Muslims who cannot yet read Arabic well spend some time each day listening to a tape or CD of the Qur’an being recited. Muslims consider Ramadan to be a good time to get into the habit of reading at least some of the Qur’an or its translation every day, and if they haven’t read either of them cover to cover, Ramadan is the time to do it.

Other Acts of Worship

In addition to reading the Qur’an, Muslims try to spend more time in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) during this month and make an effort to perform Tarawih Prayer, preferably in congregation. Muslims also sometimes perform the late night Prayer called Tahajjud. They may do this before or after eating the pre-dawn meal, just before the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer.

Ramadan is also a favorite time for `Umrah—a visit to the Ka`bah in Makkah. When performed in Ramadan, `Umrah takes the same reward as Hajj (but it does not replace the obligatory Hajj).

How Muslims Fast

According to Muslims, fasting means abstaining not only from food and drink, but also from sexual intercourse, lying, arguing, and back-biting. While fasting, Muslims must be careful to restrain their tongues, temper, and even their gaze. Ramadan is the time for Muslims to learn to control themselves and to develop their spiritual side.

Basically, Muslims try to have a pre-dawn meal, known as sahur, before they begin fasting. The fast lasts from dawn to sunset. As soon as the sun has set, Muslims break their fast without delay. Generally, Muslims may break their fast with a small amount of food—the sunnah is to do so with an odd number of dates—and then perform the Maghrib (Sunset) Prayer before eating a full meal.

Charity in Ramadan

Ramadan is also the month of charity. The Prophet Muhammad said, “…Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in (this month), shall receive the same reward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time; and whoever performs an obligatory deed in (this month), shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations at any other time. It is the month of patience, and the reward of patience is Paradise. It is the month of charity, and a month in which a believer’s sustenance is increased. Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast shall have his sins forgiven, and he will be saved from the Hell-Fire, and he shall have the same reward as the fasting person, without his reward being diminished at all.” (Reported by Ibn Khuzaymah)

Ibn `Abbas, one of the Prophet’s Companions, narrated: “The Prophet was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Jibreel visited him, and Jibreel used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet used to recite the Holy Qur’an to Jibreel, and when Jibreel met him, he used to be more generous than a fast wind (which causes rain and welfare).” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

Thus Muslims should try to give generously in Ramadan, both sadaqah (optional charity) and zakat al-mal (obligatory charity). Sadaqah does not only have to be money. It can also be a good deed—such as helping another person—done for the sake of Allah and without expecting any reward from the person. Even a smile is considered charity in Islam. Most Muslims pay their zakah during Ramadan because the reward is so much greater in that month.

It is obligatory for every Muslim to pay a small amount of zakat al-fitr before the end of Ramadan. This money is collected and given to the poorest of the poor so that they may also enjoy the festivities on `Eid Al-Fitr.

And because of the great reward for feeding a fasting person, in many places iftar (the break-fast meal at sunset) is served in mosques, with the food donated or brought by individuals to share pot-luck style. In some Muslim countries, tables are set up on the sidewalks or outside of mosques to serve iftar to the poor and others. Such traditions also build a sense of brotherhood and community.

Families and friends also like to share iftar. However, sometimes this generosity is exaggerated so that Ramadan becomes a month of lavish tables and overeating.

This goes against the spirit of Ramadan and should be avoided.

The Last Third

Muslims also believe that the last ten days of Ramadan are the holiest of all, and try to make even greater efforts at that time to increase their worship. The holiest night of all, Laylat Al-Qadr, falls on one of the odd numbered nights of the last ten days.

Laylat Al-Qadr, roughly translated as the Night of Power, is such an important night that Allah describes it in the Qur’an as being better than one thousand months, meaning that worship done on this night is worth more than worship done in a thousand months.

`Eid Al-Fitr

The public celebration at the end of Ramadan, on the first day of the month of Shawwal, is called `Eid Al-Fitr. After sunset on the 29th of Ramadan, Muslims wait for the announcement of whether the new moon has been sighted, which means that Ramadan is finished and the next day is `Eid. In that case, there are no Tarawih Prayers that night. If the moon has not been sighted, then there is one more day of fasting and the Tarawih Prayers are performed.

The `Eid is celebrated with public Prayers and a sermon, often followed by some form of halal (lawful) celebration such as games for the children or sweets shared by everyone. It is a happy day for all. Although `Eid Al-Fitr lasts only one day, in Muslim countries, schools, offices, and shops are often closed for two or three days.

It’s Not Over Till It’s Over

If any of the days of fasting were missed, they must be made up for before the next Ramadan. Muslims generally should try to make up for them as soon as possible because any days that are missed are considered as a debt to Allah.

For Muslims, it is a sunnah to fast six days during the month of Shawwal, the lunar month immediately following Ramadan. Muslims believe that if a Muslim fasts all of Ramadan and then fasts any six days in Shawwal, the reward will be as if he or she has fasted the whole year. Many Muslims do take advantage of this mercy from Allah.

When You tube is officially launched on the Internet, I was honestly suprised the amount of attention it received. After couple of months You tube become one of the great entertaining website at home and offices and even in public places like cybercafe.

After couple of years later I heard that a group of IT geeks from MVGEEKS launched a application called raajje.tv. I was really glad to see a web application that entertain many people in our society. In my personal experience with You tube and other free video hosting sites some of the contents of these websites are not really fit into our society.

Why do we hate things?

Well, I have met lot of friends and read lot of articles about why people hate things in this world. Everybody has some kind of explanation to what they hate and even they can give proofs to it.

Last week, I met a friend in a coffee shop where I used to go frequently. He expressed the feeling that he hate his mother and father. I told him he shouldnt mention it. After couple of days later i have been searching for reason why today among lot of young people there is so much hate for their beloved parents and things around.

To continue further I need your views about this topic.

selfish people

First I like to hear your story before I am gonna write into this topic and share what I had experienced. Somebody may say I am stupid and selfish. To some extent it might be true because its human nature to fulfill their basic needs human can have some kind of selfishness. So as human i might be selfish. What the point was why some people are extremist in selfishness.

Recently I went to pick up my cousin sister from school and it seems that there are many people who don't care of stopping their cars in the middle of the road since there is not enough room for another car or a motorbike to go by in the lane. I guess they think they are so special and people respect them because they are in a high rank or may be they are famous. It also seems that these people are so lazy and that their kids are so lazy that they cannot drive around the corner or park in a road where there are no traffic. May be they are so busy and it will taken an extra few minutes to walk or drive if they do.

Living in a small community means we do have to obey certain rules which others are not practicing yet.

When first I heard about iPhone I thought it gives more or less features of an ipod with combination of typical features of a mobile phone. But early this year when Apple release iPhone features to the public most of the buzz surrounding the iPhone is positive, even from other cellular service providers.

The official launch of the iPhone is June 29, 2007, at 6PM local time. Remember, it is only at AT&T corporate owned stores in USA. The cost ranges from $499 to $599 for the 4GB and 8GB models respectively. The battery and top surface were recently upgraded. The battery will feature up to eight hours of talk time, six hours of Internet use, and seven hours of video playback or twenty-four hours of audio playback. The entire top surface of iPhone, including its 3.5-inch display, has been upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass providing scratch resistance and optical clarity. There is a 2 Mega pixel camera for those quality shots, and wireless web access, as highlighted in the popular commercials. Also, remember that YouTube is an advertised feature, but it is still unknown how well those videos will stream.

hard to believe. but the truth.

I was in a middle of a road with some friends waiting for a friend. Then few minutes later a three girls walking towards us and stopped few feet away from us. After a while they began pull down part of their dress to get our attention. But the truth is none of us were interested in staring at them. After a couple of minutes later one girl came and spoke to us in a very sexy and soft slithering voice demanding for a ride. Other two girls were on a phone. It seems they are talking to their boyfriends or may be to a friend. We don't care whom they are talking to and what they were at.

But it was incredibly hard to believe why they wanted to go for a ride. If instead they wanna lift to their home perhaps we could help. After a while she gave her phone number and ask to give a call any time and went. It was ironic that our girls were living in a stone age socializing with boys and dressing immodestly. However, this is the trend among many of our girls, especially the up and coming generation.

So whom to blame: parents? government? Islamic scholars? teachers? or just them selves?. The truth is that everybody is responsible. This is a responsibility every Maldivian should shoulder - men and women alike!

We all carry our mobile phones with hundreds of names and numbers stored in its memory but yet nobody, other than ourselves, know which of these numbers belong to our near and dear ones?

In case we are involved in an accident or had a heart attack and the people attending us get hold of our mobile phone but don't know which number to call to inform our family members. Yes, there are many number stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? For this reason, we must have one or more telephone numbers stored under the name ICE (In Case of Emergency) in our mobile phones.Recently, the concept of 'ICE' is catching up quickly. It is simple, an important method of contact during emergency situations.

As cell phones are carried by majority of the population, just store the number of a contact person or person who should be contacted at during emergency as ICE' (meaning In Case of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose.

Following a disaster in London , the East Anglican Ambulance Service has launched a national 'In case of Emergency (ICE)' campaign. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply dialing the number stored as 'ICE'.

I was told by one of my lecturer that there are some kind of association or relationship between beers and diapers. I found that this will be an interesting topic will be helpful for me to gain some knowledge related to data mining. From a colleague I heard that this story was told most of the colleges and university students in doing database or data mining.

I thought of doing a kind a research and I found that this was a real story that was founded in Wall-mart. The did an analysis of customers' buying habits and found a statistically significant correlation between purchases of beer and purchases of nappies (diapers in the US). It was theorized that the reason for this was that fathers were stopping off at Wal-Mart to buy nappies for their babies, and since they could no longer go down to the pub as often, would buy beer as well. As a result of this finding, the supermarket chain is alleged to have the nappies next to the beer, resulting in increased sales of both.

So if you do this kind analysis you might come around couple of patterns of like this.

If you are a internet surfer or you have couple of free hours after hard work then you will go and surf Internet because you are boring and you want occupy yourself. while you are surfing you might come across number of search records about blogs. So who are these bloggers.

The beauty of a blog is that there are no editorial guidelines. If you wake up on Monday you may feel completely different from the way you will on Tuesday, and your posts should reflect this. Eventually you'll find your own voice and a style you're happy with, and if what you write is interesting and/or entertaining, then you'll find an audience organically. You won't have to try to impress. Determined bloggers who sit at their computers all day have time and room to get stories started in a way beyond the interest or capacity of cable news networks.

So as a blogger I have started blogging in January 2006. For me I found Google blogging platform as a best choice. Those days when computers introduced to no body even the great inventors of computers were not dream of what computers will do in future. But during the last couple of years computers contributed enormous development to the world and human beings. So as a matter of fact I can say without computers humans are dead or they wont survive in this world. So you can imagine how it became part of our daily life.

So just how different are things today in the world of computers compared with say 20 years ago? We have already seen in earlier documents how expectations of computers and information technology in our life's have sometimes been exaggerated or quite wrong.

Microsoft the largest software company in the world compromising more than half of a world population with its product faced another battle over open source software community, Linux. This time Microsoft claims that Linux stole their 230 patents. This will be another trick that they want reduce the popularity of open source software, Linux. According to Microsoft statement that Linux Kernel violates 42 Microsoft patents, while its user interface and other design elements go against on a further 65. OpenOffice.org is acussed of violating 45, along with 83 more in other free and open-source programs.

If Microsoft win this battle definitely there will be discussions about the future of opensource softwares. Linux contains hundreds of different flavors. Customers use open-source software widely, and many major computing companies--IBM, Dell, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola and Oracle, for example--support Linux work directly.

In my mind and I don't believe Microsoft gonna win this case, if they are then it will be complicated. They need lot of effort and resource. So lets wait and see what is gonna happen in future. Linux is my number one Operating system software.

Visit Maldives before 2100 !!

When you see a sinking boat in the middle of a ocean most probably boat will disappeared from your vision. You find difficult to hear this or take it as a joke when news from local TV or news saying Maldives will be not existed in world map in next century. I heard such a story saying that Maldives will disappear in 2050 when I was very young but as like you first I thought it was joke. Though it was an end result of a research done by some scientists many people even never dream of such a tragedy will come to them. I believe the truth, nature can change anything. A tsunami will come and washed off these small coral islands.

But today it was a different story. This period was extended to another 50 years. So it means there will be no Maldives in the year 2100. This was based on a scientific calculations and changes into the sea level rising and so many other factors.

The average height of the Maldives is 1.5 meters above mean sea level. With a United Nations climate panel forecasting world sea levels likely to rise by up to 59cm by 2100. Quote “Therefore, if the rate of sea level rise per century is 59cm, it would take a couple of centuries at the most to totally inundate the entire Maldives” President

For your remembrance The Maldives was the first country to sign up to the Kyoto Protocol.

Raaje FM - First anniversary

Today, April 1st Raaje FM celebrating their first anniversary. On this special occasion myself and on behalf of all readers of The Analyzer congratulate for this great achievement. I see that it was on 1st April 2006, that I heard first song from FM radio. But as I was living abroad I was not able to listen FM, but I have strong feeling that you will make it better day by day. So today it was the day you have achieved this remarkable achievements in entertaining peoples in Maldives.

I'm not too sure how popular has your radio become but it’s definitely much more popular than when we first heard a voice from FM. But as your radio is extending to outer atolls you I heard there are complains about weak frequency and signal losses. I hope this would be better now.

I predict that popularity will continue to grow - thanks to numerous dedicated genealogy members of FM radio - and especially my friends, Aasy and Hassan.

Prison break Season 3 on August

I came across news that third season of prison break would be shown in this august. Third season will be very similar to first season, fighting in prison. But this time it is not in Fox River but in Mexico prison. Also this time there will be some changes, instead of prison break this time it will be something else maybe Prison In. The main roles of upcoming season will be played by Miachel. Linchon, Surce, T-bag, Captain Brad Bellick, Rockmond Dunbar and Kellerman. But there are rumors that actress Sara is pregnant, therefore she will not be shown up. She will be return as soon as she gives birth to her child. To fill this missing part new season might show Sara is kidnapped.

But now everybody is criticizing that prison break is too long.

Fua Mulaku -Gem of an island

"Upon the silent shore of memory, images and precious thoughts, that cannot idle" Its not surprising that the many astonishing images that the author H.C.P Bell recorded in his memory during his short stay in Fua Mulaku, will not erode: no matter how big the waves of time may be.

Situated between 0degree 17' and 0degree 20' south, equator and on the longitude 73degree 22 1/2 and 73degree 25', Fua Mulaku is politically an atoll, but geographically it is an island by itself. Completely isolated and seemingly in a world of its own, only the blue sea removes a great part of its loneliness. But from within, there is no emptiness and the kind of life, which goes on the island gives an instant feeling of welcome to the visitor. By all accounts, it is one of the most agriculturally successful island. Thick vegetation and and evenly distributed rainfall, has made the island's soil fertile rich in humus. A variety of fruits like bananas, mangoes, lime, orange, pineapple are grown. Sweat potatoes, watermelon and maize are grown seasonally. Of these, lime, bananas and oranges are grown on a commercial basis and are marketed to the island - capital Male'.

With about four miles in length and 1 1/2 miles in width, Fuvahmulah has enough land that still could be turned into arable farmlands. About half of the cultivable land is used for growing Yam, a kind of tuber, which is the staple crop. Nearly each household will have about 2 to 3 plots of yam farms. Fua Mulaku's population of over six thousand (pop. in 1921 was 2185), may have to cope with a shortage of arable land unless more land is groomed for cultivation.

A deep reef about two miles long extends from the southern tip of the island, an area that is well known to the islanders for its dangerous waves. Fishing boats have capsized while trying to cross this reef as the waves there from menacingly and unexpectedly. As there are no barrier reefs surrounding the island, it is prone to undulating swells, which can eventually turn into ferocious waves, the power of which is ideal for windsurfers. The waves however keep guard on the island coast and never discriminate the islander or intruder. To reach the shore of Fua Mulaku is a risky task.

When I heard local news from government controlled medias, Television Maldives and radio Maldives and private print medias sometimes story vary in different paths. Though I don't believe local news from TVM and radio I get confused when I heard the truth or when I experienced the truth.

Propaganda machines are dangerous, even more so in a democracy than in totalitarian regions because their goal is to confuse, disinform, lie, raise fear and manipulate the opinions of the people.

Indeed, a government controlled media can influence peoples life and change their beliefs according to the way they want. The power lies behind these media will be unknown to a individual. Those few hands that control media can turn lies into truth and truth into lies, without being contradicted. You can imagine situation when the soviet union was in the power, they controlled their region using media and force.

According to Information clearing house an article by Rodrigue Tremblay "In fact, people begin to distrust the government because it has become a source of half-truths, lies and disinformation. Discouragement and apathy follow because people know that their views do not count and that the oligarchy in power will do whatever it wants, no matter what the supposedly 'sovereign' people thinks. It is only when the media are free and independent that people can hope to be honestly informed and be free from government manipulation."

Unfortunately visual media plays much more power in influencing peoples than print medias. If a government can control this media then their power will last until they loose the media. Journey to World's End

What follows is the adventure trip that we have made to the Horton Plains, the silent plain of Horton to the end of the world.

On 13th april 2007, relaxing at the delightful Nuwraliya after morning breakfast me and my wife and some other firends started our journey to one of the most exciting place in Sri Lanka, the world end at 11 am in the morning. It was a beautiful day morning sun was shining from the blue sky. Temprature was 20c and its the best whether I have ever had experienced at Nuwraliya.

To reach our Horton plain we travelled 26km through mountains and rainy forests. we enjoy climbing to top of that mountain by our vehicle. On the way we saw one of the vehicle went off from the road. Luckily all the passengers escaped. If you are a foriegner to get entrance you have to bear $14 for adult and $7 bucks for a child. From the entrance gate to reach ticketing and checking counters you have to travel another few killometers. On the way we saw the beauty of nature.

Horton Plains is a large area of upland grassland that was once used by the colonials to hunt elephant and deer - they had cleared the forest for that purpose. The area was lovely, it gave me a feeling of space & peace. The plains reach over 2000 meters high with the mountains of Kirigalpotta and Totapola looming up from the edges of the plateau. The most tremendous feature of the strange silent world of the plains however is Worlds End, where the plains abruptly stop leaving you hovering over a straight drop of 880 meters.

We walked approximately 2 hours around 5km to see the amazing view of the world end. Other than sounds of wind and water, the only sounds to be heard are bird calls, and small creatures whistles. After several hours walk we finally get there around 15hrs in the evening. It was cold and weather was so nice to stay there for next day morning. But we are supposed to go back as soon as possible. so we rushed to the top of the mountain we felt as if we were siting on a cloud thick, gray mist surronded us. This view was noexistent. From the top its very difficult to see the bottom due to fog.

Then we walked to the bakers fall. Another interesting place discovered by Sir Samuel Baker and a good stopover on your way to the World`s end. The icy waters glisten in the sunshine amid a backdrop of mountain terrain and deep valleys. If you are lucky you may see the rare black monkey and rhododendrons in bloom.

After a great day of exploring beauty of nature at Horton place we walked to go back to our vehicle. After a long jounery everybody seems to be tired and lazy. Horton Plains is an exhilarating experience. A land of many moods, it is a windswept wilderness to which one returns time and time again.

Widows XP will not be available soon

Microsoft is plan to discontinue famous windows XP in early 2008. According to Microsoft website under Windows life cycle policy they have announced after 31st January 2008 direct OEM and retail license will not be available. But system builder license availability will be continued until 31st January 2009.

The major factor behind this decision was Microsoft needs to promote Vista and put much effort in marketing and developing Vista. Microsoft has reported that more than 20 million copies of Vista shipped from January 30 to February 28, the first month of general availability. But this wast not their target to reach.

I don't care Vista is safe, , easier to use, better connected, and more entertaining that any operating system ever released. If you want install Vista you need to spend lot of money on buying required hardware. And other interesting point is Vista contains bugs security threats. Still Microsoft is unable to come with a service pack for Vista. Another interesting point is that there are countless applications that are going to fail miserably with Vista.

As usual today when I log in to my mail box I got this mail from my brother. I read the article and did some browsing to capture the topic more clearly which was raised in this article. It's there on local news as well as some websites and online news papers. At first I found difficulties in believing it. But dear brothers and sisters its a Maldivian, a lady from 100% Sunni Muslim nation which is famous for its tourism and fishing.

Reaction to Aaniya

On having read the controversial article written by an MDP member named Aaniya which was published in the Minivan Daily, I decided to produce a spur-of-the-moment reaction (as opposed to critique) to that article. Out of laziness, I have decided to critique it paragraph-by-paragraph, which may cause some difficulty for the reader because of repetitions. I apologise.

First paragraph: The claims that Aaniya makes are based on a gross simplification of the country’s reaction to the Asian Tsunamis not all of which are on record but are known through mere anecdotal evidence. In addition, Aaniya has misinterpreted some of the sentiment as being targeted wholly towards women. If there are any records, Aaniya makes no reference to them, shows no proof towards anything, as if the reader is to be content by taking her word for it.

That the Hadith and the Quran clearly state that a woman (since its the point here) should don a veil, Aaniya makes no mention. In addition, Aaniya makes no mention of the fact that to claim, Islamically, that the Tsunami was a warning from God is a valid Islamic interpretation based on the primary Islamic texts.

“Allaah is the All-Wise, All-Knowing in all that He wills and decrees,” writes the Sheikh Ibn Baz, “And He is the All-Wise, All-Knowing in all that He legislates and commands. He creates and decrees whatever signs He wills, to frighten His slaves and remind them of their obligations and duties towards Him, and to warn them against associating anything in worship with Him, going against His commands and doing that which He has forbidden.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And We sent not the signs except to warn” [al-Israa’ 17:59]

“We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur’aan) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?” [Fussilat 41:53]

“Say: ‘He has power to send torment on you from above or from under your feet, or to cover you with confusion in party strife, and make you to taste the violence of one another.’” [al-An’aam 6:65]

Al-Bukhaari narrated in his Saheeh from Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that when the aayah (interpretation of the meaning)

“Say: ‘He has power to send torment on you from above” was revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “A’oodhu bi wajhika (I seek refuge in Your Face”; “or from under your feet”, he said, “A’oodhu bi wajhika (I seek refuge in Your Face)…

Al-’Allaamah Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “Allaah sometimes gives the earth permission to breathe, which is when major earthquakes happen; this makes people feel scared, so they repent, give up sins, pray to Allaah and feel regret [for their sins]. When there had been an earthquake, some of the Salaf said: your Lord is warning you. When Madeenah was struck by an earthquake, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with you) addressed the people and said: if there is another earthquake, I will not stay here with you.”" (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, 5/193)”

Thus, can’t it be a valid Islamic interpretation that the Tsunami was a warning?

Perhaps Aaniya was unaware of this interpretation of the Quran and Hadith.

Second and third paragraph: Aaniya goes on to make ad hominem arguments against these mysterious, hardline scholars who have “claimed that the curse of God has come upon us due to the evil of women”. She argues that these scholars demand complete, blind obedience, arguing that they claim to know the secrets of God’s Revelation.

Aaniya tactfully ignores the warning issued in the Prophet’s (pbuh) last sermon to hold onto the Quran and the Sunnah, the two things standing in the way of us going astray. She also ignores the command that innovation should be avoided, for all innovation is in the hellfire according to Sunnah.

Aaniya makes no comparison between these mysterious scholars’ interpretations of the Quran and Hadith to mainstream, and agreed-upon interpretations, and neither (just to strengthen her case) does she compare their interpretations to that of the Taliban or Usama bin Ladin. Surely, such a tactic could have worked for her.

She argues that religious scholars who gain the obedience of a people are thus “highly dangerous”. This is a groundless argument on her part, as she (a) makes no quotes, references, or even reflections as to how a large group of people following a clergy of scholars can be detrimental to society, nor does she (b) make any mention of the present-day manifestations of such scholars as the Adhaalath party’s relatively quiet campaign for political power as opposed to the MDP’s massive protests.

The only evidence that she may give for this is implied: that an Al-Qaeda may spring up in the Maldives, taking away everything that has been built in terms of our “progress”.
Now, Aaniya should have then at least attempted to compare how similar these mysterious scholars’ (who she keeps anonymous) interpretations of the Quran and Hadith are to her ideal form of Muslim society, if she deems any Muslim society ideal. She stops at mere criticism. Moving on.

Images and photos that are uploaded through blogger gets stored in you Picasa web album provided by Google and which are part of your Google account. Microsoft always says it opposes "software pirates" who sell thousands of unauthorized copies of Windows.

But the Redmond company has made things a lot easier for pirates by adding a line to the Registry that can be changed from 0 to 1 to postpone the need to "activate" Vista indefinitely.

Activation doesn't stop true software piracy

As most Windows users know, Microsoft has required "product activation" since the release of Windows XP in 2001. XP must be activated by communicating with servers in Redmond within 30 days of installation. By contrast, Microsoft Office XP, 2003, and 2007 require activatation before the package is used 5 to 50 times, depending on the version, according to a company FAQ. If a PC has no Internet connection, a user may activate a product by dialing a telephone number in various countries.

The activation process will complete successfully only if the software has not been previously activated, such as on a different machine. If activation isn't completed within the trial period, Microsoft products temporarily shut down some of their features. MS Office loses the ability to edit and save files. After Vista's activation deadline runs out, the user can do little other than use Internet Explorer to activate the operating system or buy a new license.

Microsoft describes its product activation scheme as a way to foil software pirates. However, as I previously described in an InfoWorld Magazine article on Oct. 22, 2001, activation does nothing to stop mass piracy. The Redmond company actually included in Windows XP a small file, Wpa.dbl, that makes it easy for pirates to create thousands of machines that validate perfectly.

Far from stopping software piracy, product activation has primarily been designed to prevent home users from installing one copy of Windows on a home machine and a personal-use copy on a laptop. As I explained in an article on Mar. 8, buying a copyrighted work and making another copy strictly for personal use is specifically permitted to consumers by the U.S. Copyright Act and the copyright laws of many other countries.

For example, courts have repeatedly ruled that consumers can make copies of copyrighted songs or television programs for personal use (not for distribution or resale). This principle is legally known as "fair use." The home edition of Microsoft Office 2007 reflects this principle, allowing consumers to activate three copies of a single purchased product. Microsoft Windows XP and Vista, however, allow only one activation.

Surprisingly, Microsoft has embedded into its new Vista operating system a feature that makes things easier than ever for true, mass software pirates. These tricksters will be able to produce thousands of Windows PCs machines that won't demand activation indefinitely — at least for a year or more.

Leaving the activation barn door open

I reported in a Feb. 1 article that the upgrade version of Windows Vista allows itself to be clean-installed to a new hard drive. The new Microsoft operating system completely omits any checking for a qualifying previous version of Windows. This allows the upgrade version of Vista to successfully upgrade over a nonactivated, trial version of itself.

After my article appeared, ZDnet blogger Ed Bott summarized the secret in a post on Feb. 15. He flatly states, "You satisfied every condition of the license agreement and aren't skating by on a technicality. The fact that you have to use a kludgey workaround to use the license you've purchased and are legally entitled to is Microsoft's fault."

In my own piece, I had speculated that clean-installing the upgrade version of Vista "probably violates the Vista EULA (End User License Agreement)." But more and more computer experts are saying that the procedure is fully compliant with the EULA and, in any event, is perfectly legal.

I wrote a follow-up story on Feb. 15. I reported that Microsoft includes in Vista a one-line command that even novices can use to postpone the product's activation deadline three times. This can extend the deadline from its original 30 days to as much as 120 days — almost four months.

PCWorld.com posted a report on my story on Feb. 17. The magazine quotes a Microsoft spokeswoman as saying that extending Vista's activation deadline as I described it "is not a violation of the Vista End User License Agreement." I'm glad that's clear.

The feature that I've revealing today shows that Microsoft has built into Vista a function that allows anyone to extend the operating system's activation deadline not just three times, but many times. The same one-line command that postpones Vista's activation deadline to 120 days can be used an indefinite number of times by first changing a Registry key from 0 to 1.

This isn't a hacker exploit. It doesn't require any tools or utilities whatsoever. Microsoft even documented the Registry key, although obtusely, on its Technet site.

But dishonest PC sellers could use the procedure to install thousands of copies of Vista and sell them to unsuspecting consumers or businesses as legitimately activated copies. This would certainly violate the Vista EULA, but consumers might not realize this until the PCs they bought started demanding activation — and failing — months or years later.

The following describes the Registry key that's involved.

Step 1. While running a copy of Windows Vista that hasn't yet been activated, click the Start button, type regedit into the Search box, then press Enter to launch the Registry Editor.

Step 2. Explore down to the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ SL

Step 3. Right-click the Registry key named SkipRearm and click Edit. The default is a Dword (a double word or 4 bytes) with a hex value of 00000000. Change this value to any positive integer, such as 00000001, save the change, and close the Registry Editor.

Step 4. Start a command prompt with administrative rights. The fastest way to do this is to click the Start button, enter cmd in the Search box, then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter. If you're asked for a network username and password, provide the ones that log you into your domain. You may be asked to approve a User Account Control prompt and to provide an administrator password.

Step 5. Type one of the following two commands and press Enter:

slmgr -rearm or rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows

Either command uses Vista's built-in Software Licensing Manager (SLMGR) to push the activation deadline out to 30 days after the command is run. Changing SkipRearm from 0 to 1 allows SLMGR to do this an indefinite number of times. Running either command initializes the value of SkipRearm back to 0.

Step 6. Reboot the PC to make the postponement take effect. (After you log in, if you like, you can open a command prompt and run the command slmgr -xpr to see Vista's new expiration date and time. I explained the slmgr command and its parameters in my Feb. 15 article.)

Step 7. To extend the activation deadline of Vista indefinitely, repeat steps 1 through 6 as necessary.

Any crooked PC seller with even the slightest technical skill could easily install a command file that would carry out steps 1 through 6 automatically. The program could run slmgr -rearm three times, 30 days apart, to postpone Vista's activation deadline to 120 days. It could then run skip -rearm every 30 days, for a period of months if not years, by first resetting the SkipRearm key.

This phenomenon indicates that Islam is truly a religion from God (Allah). It is unreasonable to think that people from different countries have converted to Islam without careful consideration and deep contemplation before concluding that Islam is true. These converts have come from different countries, classes, races, and walks of life. They include scientists, professors, philosophers, journalists, politicians, actors, and athletes.

You may believe when you are provided with facts from different sources. In my mind I have no doubt about the growth of Islam.

Why i have no interest in Vista??

I Was one of very few lucky guys who got chance of experiencing Microsoft new operating system Vista on its release to the market for beta testers. After its release IT geeks found lot of bugs, errors and other user limitation on Vista. There has been lot of talk lately surrounding the limitations Microsoft has introduced Vista.

I found Vista is not attractive to me in either ways when I have number of other alternatives such as Linux, Windows XP, Mac, etc. The following bullet points will explain why I was not interested in this new release.

1. Vista has onerous product activation.

2. It does not allow Vista Home Basic and Home Premium editions to run as either host or guest operating systems for companies.

3. Vista introduced quiet large number of bugs when it was released, and it is still threatened with attacks, security loopholes. Also yet Microsoft didn't released service pack ( SP2 will be released on June)

4. It requires too much hardware. They will require a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of main memory, 128 MB of memory and a graphics card that supports Vista's new graphics interface, called Windows Aero.

5. Windows Vista cost too much for normal guy. Also compared to Windows XP + Service pack Vista cost more or the same in full version and upgraded version.

Though some don't believe the phenomena of people have the right to look at our lives, you might think that its good being a public figure or a celebrity. Then you can't go around and say "don't you go and picture somewhere else rather than following my footsteps". Maybe you are wrong and you have no right to say it in front of them. Because they have chosen you as a celebrity and they support you.

The crucial part of media guys are they don't respect your privacy. Where ever you go and what ever you do will be filmed and pictured and its released on media coverage. We live in a media saturated culture don't we? Not only saturated with media, but saturated with advertising. Everywhere we look people are trying to sell something about you. Every website in the world that's free seems to have some kind of advertisement on it; banner ads, spam, TV commercials. It's amazing how many thousands of times we hear somebody trying to sell something of you. And one of the main ways that people try to convince us, one of the most effective ways is a personal testimony. These advertising, TV Commercial people are all media guys related to our life and they make their living on us.

Suppose out of 6 billion people 500 million people are Information Communication Technology (ICT) industry geeks or they have some idea about this industry. Among them lets say 200 million people cared about future of ICT industry. Everybody believes the most innovative ideas of this generation that bring life to human being is Internet. Though everybody has access to Internet and now its more than 35 years from its first existence its an old technology. There was an interesting and wired news published in Miami Herald in 15th January 2007 edition. It reads "Contestants in a radio stunt called ''Hold Your Wee for a Wii'' have revealed new details about an on-air water drinking contest that left a 28-year-old mother of three dead".

When i saw the headline of I was shocked because a women gave up her life for Nintendo Wii gaming console which costs only $250.

Walking in the airport loaded with luggage’s I kept on thinking about how I would survive in this country. I was very much looking forward to have a great time here. I knew nobody at all. Life was exciting before. Or may be it was superb. I had all the freedom I needed. I need not to ask anyone before doing anything. Not even my own mother. Talking about my mom I don’t even bother to think about my dad. But I love him a lot. And I know he loves me too. But now life is going to be much more exciting and thrilling. Only I had the problem of being apart from mom. And it was time for me to do all the chores alone. I got a mothers love in a different way. I accept the freedom she gave me as love and care. Since my childhood I like being alone. Making friends with kids my age was a difficult task for me. Something kept the kids away from me. I love privacy and I don’t believe in love.

After struggling with the luggage and diving in thoughts I and my friend started our journey. Srilanka is a big country. Buses and three wheelers were new for us Maldivians who have enjoyed the white sands and calm breezes of the separated small islands. For my shock on that very fist day I saw a fearsome accident. The scene of a dead mans body and his head been apart was terrifying. Immediately I got the point I should get used to these types of shocks.

We have a small apartment in wellawatha. I didn’t mind being tenants but I was going to enjoy this simple living. Washing, cooking, cleaning and other were new but I didn’t loose hope. We enjoyed our first dinner in the country at a famous restaurant named Mango Tree. I didn’t like the crowded atmosphere, but the food was lip smacking.

The first days we spend were tiring and we got to learn lots. I started enjoying cooking and cleaning. Washing was easy as long as I had the support of the washing machine. We came to know people in the country. They are helpful. Some are greedy but it’s because of their living standards. I hate people who cheat. As long as I could I didn’t leave any chance for them to cheat on me or even if they get me I won’t get away easily. I was kind of proud for having that much gut.

Days passed now I am studying in royal institute, a very well know institute in Sri Lanka. We have lots of Maldivians in our school. Teachers are excellent in their profession. Playing around and chatting in the interval time with the Maldivian gang kept my memories of school days in Maldives, bright. Been space out from Maldives we enjoyed the deeds and conducts of Maldivians.

By no means will I say that I don’t like Sri Lankan people. I have lots of friends from Sri Lanka. I adore some people a lot. Mentioning some of them I would always remember my school principle. Working for the school as the principle he also teach us accounts, my favorite subject. Handling the leadership, he is performing at his finest level. A truthful, trustworthy, sincere and an honorable person, even is the minority of level how I could describe him.

My best friend is a very amusing person. Even though he is from Sri Lanka he has spend most of his time overseas and now he is my classmate. I learn lot from him knowledge about the culture and practice about other countries. He is a very pleasant and kind hearted person. He has laughing dark eyes, a handsome, high-cheek boned face and thick black hair. At first I didn’t like him at all. But as the time moved ahead we became close as best friends.

In the first year of my schooling in Srilanka our class got a project to visit certain rural areas about finding knowledge of the economical stability in those areas. When we visited those areas I found that quite a number of poor people around the area. Most of them are homeless and unable to fulfill their daily needs. Though education is provided by the government there is certain people who are unable to afford the simple necessities require entering school. These people live far from these educational areas making them unable to spend much and travel far. I have my most sympathies for these people and kids.

We also organized a program where group of students from my school collected funds for the cancer hospital. We bought gifts for those people and kids and organized a small show for them. We all had the great intention on doing anything for those kids to smile. For this charitable work we got sincere thanks from the heads of the hospital. It was a day that I felt so relieved and happy for helping the patients.

I would always remember the 2 days I spent in nurelia with my friends. It’s a very cold but gorgeous and stunning area. We had to drive for almost 6 hours to reach the area. The flower gardens in the area are picturesque and charming. We spend our time exploring the area. There were lots of fun activities we did. We spent most time horse ridding and boat ridding. We also got a chance to explore a tea manufacturing firm. There was a guide who told us about every process going on the factory. We saw the real process. It was a very valuable trip for us and we were lucky to get that much information. On the way back to Colombo we took pictures near waterfalls and fogs. The scenery was breath taking.

After two years, I finished my A levels successfully from Royal Institute. I was really happy for gaining goods results. My parents were proud of me. The last day I spent in school was amusing and as well as I felt very miserable to leave the school. I got signatures and autographs from all respective heads, teachers and my all friends.

After finishing my A levels I decided to study law. Now am studying in a law school. I am still doing successfully and hoping to finish my studies successfully. I intend to finish my studies in Srilanka, hoping that life in srilanka would be thrilling and enjoyable.

I have always have a dream of running my own website to share my views and ideas with the rest of the world and more importantly with my collgues and friends. I always enjoyed reading my friends blogs and writing commenting for interesting articles. The very frist day I heard of the blogger i questioned my self why should I blog? and what do I have to blog?. After few moments of brainstorming i came up with this conclusion. "The Analyzer"

The Analyzer. Initial stage i had some difficulties beacause I have poor english skills, no source to write. As a blogger, I love sitting down to blog. When I start a post I have no idea where I'm headed. I love that freedom. I do write otherwise. With outlines and plans. Strategies. Saudi Women allowed selling underwear – and buying their own

Saudi Arabia is one of the richest country in Middle East, but also famous for its laws and orders inside the country. While i was having a conversation with a friend of mine in Saudi Arabia he gave me a link to visit and drop my views about it. I read it and drop some comments and finally thought of sharing with you guys.

Since April this year women are not longer banned from selling underwear. A new legislation pushed by King Abdullah, allows females to sell women’s underwear. Hitherto, customers for women’s underwear were mostly male. Reason being that the sales person also were males. Even though stores managers are worried that males won’t buy from females, we are still talking here about female underwear, and who is to be the primary customer if not those who will wear it? This can also mean, that women will be allowed to carry their own pocket money.

That’s one small step for a female…

The sender: Lines and subject line

The original email was sent by uklotterygames12@mail.ru who gives his real name as uk lottery and the email was addressed to same address which it was originated from. Together with the Reply-To: line, address is aimed at directing all bouncing messages and angry replies to same address. And the original email was composed at 12:56:07 on Tuesday, march 2006. The message id has been given to identify it. The message was sent from a program called mPOP Web-Mail (version 2.19) and at the time of this message was originated the uklotterygames12@mail.ru use IP address 81.199.40.20 which is assigned to RIPE Network Coordination Centre, Amsterdam (Netherlands). Next, the Subject: contain information which should not be existed “pound; 2,500,000 (GBP)!!” which is also a trap from spammer to attract legitimate customer to attract and show it was real.

The Received: Lines

The oldest received line indicates the email handoff from 81.199.40.20 to win.mail.ru; this handoff happens at the same time when it was send from uklotterygames12@mail.ru computer. Next handoff from win.mail.ru to f7.mail.ru; message was originated from a local computer in same date and time that it was originated. Next received line: host name f7.mail.ru with IP address 194.67.57.37 sends it to mx4.mail.ru is running POP mail version (mPOP.Fallback_MX). The receiving host assigned the ID number to the message.

The final header indicates the message was received by xxxxxun.com from a server named mx4.mail.ru on 21 March which is 8 hours before the universal clock time. It also shows the host mx4.mail.ru has IP address of 194.67.57.1. Using who is we know that this IP address is registered to the RIPE NCC, Amsterdam. From here it shows the email was forged from this local machine xxxxxx@xxxxxun.com and if the mail is valid then the same IP address should be appeared as originated in the first header. The first header is always added to the top of the message and check anyone own the address as it’s mentioned. The first invalid header means that it must be spoofed mail.

Email body: Lines

When we analyzed further into this mail no genuine website address is motioned in it. The receiver has no guarantee and unable to check the validity of it by going to their website and checking whether his her mail address was listed on their site by giving credentials if so necessary and if available. Together in the content body to file clients claim the spammer or hacker mentioned a non-existing or faked Yahoo! Mail account. If the receiver send a reply or click it may take all the necessary information by its hidden values.

Corruption Index and Maldives

Since establishment of Maldives Anti-Corruption Board (ACB) since 1991, the board has been investigating number of government corruption cases from capital Mal'e and atolls. Last couple of years government has made the relevant laws, rules and regulations to eliminate the problems of corruption. In addition, awareness programmes are being carried out by the board, targeted to deal with and eliminate the threat of corruption in outer islands.

Despite the fact that Maldives was not listed in any international corruption index and we don't have any survey carried to understand the rate of corruption in these small tiny islands. Although, it was not listed or nor official figures are being released, Maldives, like the rest of the world is facing the threats of corruption. In the private sector as well as the government.

What is corruption index?

The Corruption Index ranks its member countries in terms of the degree to which corruption is perceived to exist among public officials and politicians. The sources for this index is collected from number of internal sources. From official corruption related data, expert surveys carried out variety of organizations, interviewing public. After complex analysis, corruption watchdogs publish these figures and prepare report that is available to anyone to read.

There are now more than 100 million web sites on the Internet, which gained 3.5 million sites last month to continue the dynamic growth seen throughout 2006. In the November 2006 survey we received responses from 101,435,253 sites, up from 97.9 million sites last month.

The 100 million site milestone caps an extraordinary year in which the Internet has already added 27.4 million sites, easily topping the previous full-year growth record of 17 million from 2005. The Internet has doubled in size since May 2004, when the survey hit 50 million.

Blogs and small business web sites have driven the explosive growth this year, with huge increases at free blogging services at Google and Microsoft. Domain industry juggernauts Go Daddy (U.S.) and 1&1 Internet (Germany) have also seen strong demand for low-priced domain names and shared hosting accounts.

The first Netcraft survey in August 1995 found 18,957 hosts, with the NCSA web server dominating with 57 percent market share, leading CERN (19%) and a newcomer named Apache (3.5%). Microsoft's Internet Information Server launched in February 1996, and by the survey's fifth birthday the server market was largely divided up between Apache and IIS. Well those who are reading my blog I want thank them for their patience. I want to say sorry for keeping you guys without any update for a long time

Exams and some other stuffs really occupied me for last few weeks. I spent very hard three weeks to get ready for the exams, assignments and project. Honestly i couldn't get a single minute to play around, I have no choice but to drop all my entertainments and other stuffs including pages i write and you guys.

Now exam are over and it did not go very badly at all, There were only a handful sleepless nights, and some sacrifice with my regular activities and the project we were working on. When results get published only i can know how successful it was but i had confidence in all the exams i did and hope for a good result. Hope you guys wish me for a good result.

This is the official website for GN.Fuvahmulah atoll office. If i am not wrong this website was launched in 2003 by Mr. President Maumoonu on his last visit to Fuvahmulah. Since it was launched in 2003 a single page was not updated till today. There can be many reason for this. May be they dont have information to put or web master was unable to reach to the hosted server or this is just a show off.

This blog has been running for almost 8 months now, and I just realize that I never introduce my self to you guys. For those who are wondering if Qaafhsa is my real name, it's not. The name came across from my cyber world. But if read the letter from the end to beginning you know my actual name is.

I have been working in this cyber world when i was in school, but my actual contribution to this huge network begins couple of years back. I think my self as a generalist, knowing bit of everything ( in dhivehi for those people they call "Roanu Eduru"), and a lot on certain specialized areas. My areas of interest are fraud investigation, cyber crimes, networking, security management, web designing and hardware in general.

Before studying IT, I have studied Business related subjects in my school years as well as high schooling days. After high school i have joined Anti- Corruption Board and thought I should build my career in fraud investigation, but working there for 3 years i couldn't get any professional experiences in the field. I soon realize that this wasn't really what I wanted to do in my life. That's when I switched to Information Technology. A career in sports and journalism field would also have interested me, but after considering it for a while, I concluded that this was not something that i wanted to do full time.

The Analyser has been up and running since late august 2005. My initial goal is to transmit some of my knowledge to fellows, while making some great friends in the process. I also wanted to improve my English because as you may have already noticed, its not perfect.

Introduction

I present a peaceful country, Maldives, situated a few hundred kilometers southwest of Sri Lanka. Maldives, an archipelago, extends to about 870 km in length and is formed by 1190 islands, large and small, of which about 201 are inhabited. The archipelago is comprised of atolls and coral reefs and has a temperate climate, with an average temperature from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. It is humid and has an annual rainfall of 2100 mm (84.0 ins), which enables the inhabitants to cultivate their local crops.

Corruption is one of the major problems faced by many countries in the world. This is a threat faced by different countries in varying degrees. As such, it is a difficult task to control and is quite impossible to completely wipe out this problem. In a forum, such as this where delegates from different countries are present, ready and willing to exchange ideas regarding threats of corruption, I take this opportunity to present to you a picture of the situation in Maldives elaborating on what is being done by the government to deal with the problem.

Corruption in the history of Maldives

The Maldives, being a small island nation with a small population, comparative to the rest of the world does not have considerable corruption related problems. The country till recently has no reported cases of corruption. Corruption awareness and education among the people has surfaced the extent and dept of corruption related problem in the country.

However, as time changed, with the changes that took place in the life style of people, attitude of people has changed to a considerable degree. Increased economic development and availability of resources paved the way for certain people to misuse their power and the threat of corruption has surfaced to a noticeable extent in the present.

Problems of corruption in Maldives

Maldives, like the rest of the world is facing the threats of corruption. In the private sector as well as the government. In her Neighboring countries and particularly the south Asian countries the problem of corruption appears to be more pronounced. These problems are surfacing mostly due to certain people misusing their positions and power for personal gains. In doing so its effect is cumulative and impacts on other people who are in no position to oppose them. Therefore it is important to realise that the benefits of the community is more
important than personal gains.

It is for this very reason that the government has made the relevant laws, rules and regulations to eliminate the problems of corruption. In addition, awareness programmes are being carried out by the government, targeted to deal with and eliminate the threat of corruption for the well-being and the safety of the community.

Steps taken in the Maldives against corruption

It is indeed a laborious task to eliminate the threats caused by corruption. It is not a task, which can be completed in a day or two. It is certainly not a problem, which could be eliminated completely as is believed by most of people. However, various steps are taken to prevent and reduce it. They include: -

1- Establishment of the Anti- Corruption Board on the 21 April 1999 by the government of Maldives to deal with corruption issues.

The Board has the necessary credit and the trust of the people, as it has been created as a separate body independent from other governmental bodies, under an Act of parliament.

The Board has taken steps to minimize corruption by creating awareness among the governmental agencies on issues such as financial matters and the laws and regulations governing such matters.

The Board has also taken task to co-ordinate with Department of Audit, to formulate policies on auditing and financial transaction, on every three years. In addition the board, has taken measures to be informed prior to the initiation of any foreign funded project in the country. The board would also monitor financial transaction under these projects.

To further strengthen the capacity and ability of the board, it has taken measures to train its staffs to combat the evolving issues and cases of corruption in the country.

2- The passing of the Prohibition and Elimination of corruption Act by the People’s Majlis, legislature of the Maldives on 02 August in the year 2000 after the consideration of the present day corruption problems in the Maldives which was given assent by the president and gazetted in 2001.

This enabled the law implementing authorities to take necessary action agains cases of corruption. The introduction of firm legal action against corruption created a noticeable impact and has led to its reduction in the Maldives. Improvement of people’s living standards and other activities: -
To improve the living standards of government employees and people working in the private sector in order to provide them adequate salaries, different steps are taken by the authorities. In this respect, employees are provided with medical allowance and other benefits. These steps facilitate to control corruption and bring about equality among citizens.

The spread of corruption is mainly due to a number the people who go against the laws, rules and regulations. But the legal system has made a vast difference in controlling such cases. The media plays an important role in creating awareness against corruption. Corruption control programmes through awareness courses are conducted for personnel working in offices and companies. In addition, since the Maldives is an Islamic country following the Islamic law – it also acts as a deterrent since it strongly opposes such acts and these programmes try to make people more aware on the issue.

Technology has also played its role in controlling corruption. For instance, the using of computer networks has further strengthened the administrative sector. This has enabled to invigilate the daily activities and the work being done in the offices.

It has also been observed that through the Internet, daily Working schedules, the progress, efficiency and loopholes in the working environment can easily be observed by the concerned authorities. This has been due to the increased importance, which has been given to the development of a computer network with the respective offices and companies.

This helps to prevent people from misusing power and resources for personal gains and also maintains solidarity in the working sector.

Steps taken to prevent Corruption

Different countries take varying degrees of preventive measures against corruption. Maldives too must take necessary action to enhance the work being done in the elimination of corruption.

Those who try to spread corruption should be prevented from furthering it. People who encourage corruption engage in activities, where they make use of their positions and try to misuse it for personal gains. Famous and Wealthy people use their influence and increase the threat of corruption. Hence, it is important to prevent the spread of corruption in government Sector and the private sector.

The steps taken and that needs to be taken to liberate the country from this very real threat are very important.

1- Improving the living standard of employees

Employees should be able to enjoy a remuneration, which should enable to liberate them from poor standards. They should be able to fulfill the demands of a moderately well lifestyle so that they would not have to resort to meeting their demands by engaging in acts of corruption.

They should be paid a good salary befitting the work they do and their demands and their work performance should be valued so as to facilitate better work output. This would encourage the employees to work sincerely and they would get job satisfaction. Hence there will be lesser conflicts between employers and employees and this will enable the smooth running of the country.

2- Creating the suitable working environment

This is another way to prevent corruption. In a good working environment where people interact with each other, regard for personal gains are reduced. For eg:- In the legal system if the magistrates conclude certain legal matters according to his own way, it would pave the way for corruption. However if a panel conducts such cases, it would be more favourable. These steps if taken in various fields of work and in companies in private sector, a working environment is created whereby work progresses methodically, leaving no room for incidents of corruption.

3- The Maldives is an island nation where one island is separated from the otherby the sea.

Therefore it would be an immensely difficult task to spread out a network in order to prevent corruption. It is necessary to have anti-corruption branches in each and every atoll in the Maldives. It would be a major step to achieve this and to provide information on the working conditions in all the atolls and report the same to a main center. This would enable the implementation for anti-corruption activities.

4- It is important to create awareness in the general public and the community and it is extremely necessary to work together to eliminate corruption from the society in order to prevent the disruption in the community.

Sometimes it so happens that the common man does not even realise that unknowingly he has a hand in some cases of corruption. Therefore through the media and in other ways or by conducting workshops and by various methods, it is important to create awareness against corruption and control it.

5- By obtaining funds and foreign aid and by learning from experience and methods undertaken by other developed countries to control corruption, it would assist us in implementing mechanisms to deal with this problem in the Maldives. The Maldives does not have many natural resources, which it can exploit to generate income. As such, due to limited resources, it needs foreign aid and assistance to conduct the said programmes.

Conclusion

As mentioned before, by bringing to notice the problems and by investigating them, it has come to our notice that this is a very real problem, which is faced, by almost all the countries worldwide.

To prevent and control corruption, major activities are carried out worldwide and at a time such as this, the Republic of Maldives is also working to participate in these activities.

Even though it is a difficult task to accomplish, corruption is a very real threat,which needs to be dealt with and eliminated. It is extremely important for the betterment of the people, community and the country, as it is not possible for a country to develop with prevalent problems of corruption.

I would like to mention that meetings and workshops like this plays a very important and if I may say so crucial role in this war we are waging against this threat. The exchange of ideas and opinions on the control and prevention of corruption helps in our understanding of this problem and helps us in many waysto deal with this problem in our respective countries.

The members who took the oath were Mr. Ali Amir, who was appointed as the Assistant Director of the Board, Mr. Muavviz Rasheed and Mr. Abdulla Hilmy, who were appointed as Assistant Legal Officers.

We hope those newly appointed members will do something prodictive for the betterment of the board and there by curbing highly existed corruption cases around the country.

Its a normal tuesday evening the community of love and kindness is in its noraml rate in every corner that i have seen. Neverthless people make their lives after a hard try some people would like to stay in home and enjoy the living of others. This is what we called injustice in this real world.

Why they are not making things for their life? Do they have enough money or they need to enjoy by sacrificing others lives. Everyday when i go to the community of love i see people come and beg for money and food sometimes even for their health. Most of the time i say no. Why beacause i dont have enough money to satisfy the community of love. The actual earning of a individual is not enough to feed a cammel for a day in this real world.

Sri Lanka on Saturday went back to Indian Standard Time (GMT plus 5.30 hours) after a gap of ten years.

Among the chief reasons cited for the change are synchronisation with India and maximum use of

daylight.

The changeover took place at 12.00 am on April 15.

April 14 night-April 15 morning was chosen because it coincides with the auspicious Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

This is the sixth change in 64 years, and the third in the last ten years.

Since 1880, the Sri Lanka or Ceylon Time has varied between GMT plus 5.30 hrs to GMT plus 6.30 hours.

War time needs, day light and electricity saving, a more convenient school timing, and synchronisation with India, have been among the reasons given for the shifts.

In 1880, it was GMT plus 5.30 hrs. During World War II, in January 1942, when the Japanese were on the verge of invading Sri Lanka, the time was shifted to GMT plus 6.00 hrs.

In September the same year, it was further advanced to 6.30 hrs.

When the War ended in 1945, Sri Lanka jumped back to GMT plus 5.30 hrs to be in tune with neighbouring India.

But in May 1996, it was changed to GMT plus 6.30 hrs because of a severe power shortage in the country. Day light had to be used to the maximum.

However, this had to be changed again in October of the same year, because parents of school going children found it difficult to pack their kids off to school very early in the morning. Sri Lankan schools start very early.

Again, april holiday is on our hand. This time the period was extended than last year. I dont no what im going to do. Before new year we have planned to travel around the country to see the natures beauty. But the plan was a big failure due to some unknown reason so again i have to find a new way to get rid of this boring holiday in a foreign land. Sitting infront of Pc and looking at the pictures and reading news, writing articles and writing bullshit coding gives me a big hedache. So i need to rest and a relaxed mind to get rid of all this same boring things over my head before im gonna kick the ball to the gall.

It is home away from home. But it is second home for most of the maldivians. Everyday Maldivians come here to do their shopping, medicals, visas, studying and for other unknown reasons. Yea, Colombo is cheap and easy when compared to all the other countries ( except few countries like india).

The polution, the loud car/truck/bus beeps, the shit on the pavement, the dead stray dog, the live stray dog, three-wheeler drivers, and so on. The next thing the dirty politics and the cops taking bribes and accepting unlawful money from locals as well as from foreigners.

Buying foreign passports and allow to travel without visa, this all shit and it rally sucks. Lot of maldivians are staying without visa and go back to maldives by giving some bribe money to the custom officer, sure he/she will take it with a smile on his face. All this matters as a shit.

To get visa follow the procedures below

=Download Application form =(acrobat PDF)

1- Get a letter (visa letter) from the college.
2- Receipt of a thousand dollar from a bank.
3- 3 x Passport Photo.
4- For one year student visa you need 15000 rupees (approximately USD150).
5- Letter from Maldives Embassy in Srilanka (you need to fill an application form, with application form you need to handover copy of college visa letter and a passport size photograph).
6- Fill student visa application form (you can get this form Srilanka Immigration and Emigration Department counter without any charges).
7- Hand over all the documents to the counter with the visa application form to Srilanka Immigration Department, you need following documents;

1- Passport
2- Embassy letter
3- College letter
4- Bank receipt of USD 1000
5- 2 x passport photograph

6- 15000 Srilanka rupees (no USD accepted)
8- After you hand over the document you will call for an interview.
9- If all the information are correct you will be asked make the payments.
10- You will get a receipt which include the day and time to get the passport (it takes 2 or 3 days to get the visa and passport).

Dhivehi Observer(DO) a template or creation?

Dhivehi Observer is (almost) the most famous dhivehi website evercreated. Even its critics (including the cabinet mninisters, Maldivian intelligence and senior police officers and maybe the GAYoom too!)visits the site daily.But im gonna tell the world somthing no one have ever thought of before...Do you knowDhivehi observer websitewas an exact copy of another website!!! In the picture 1; you can see the current version of DO. Note dat it had been modified a bit. Especially the back ground colorand the side-bar.But in the picture 2 it is much different from pictureone.Which (picture 2) is how the website looked like before. U cannotice dat picture 2 is similar to picture 3.Yes it ( picture 3) is notanother version of DO but it is the original website from which sappe had copied DO template .DOhave been exactly like this (picture 3) when it was created first.Sappe have copied the source of the page(the original page shown onpicture 3) and worked on Dreamweaver (which is something even a 3rdgrader can do). And what does picture4 show to us?..? well it is thebottom right and left corners (circled in red colour) of DO(current version).when you zoom in you can see a gray colored cornerthere.That was what the original website designers used to make a roundcorner.As the original background colour was gray (and the DumbSappedidnt notice it) the coner is made gray so dat the white part will beseen as round-cornered. Go to DO and right click dat corner and save the gif image.Do the same to theoriginal website. On both websites the corner is named as "br-1.gif". .On the original site as well as on DO here or here.

In Maldives we have a Corruption investigation and prevention board formed by the president Maumoonu Abdul Gayyoom in 1991. And their duty is to prevent fraud or corrupt coduct in government administrations and its related partners.

It is your duty to report possbile corruption, Also as a Maldivian you have a duty to report incidents or suspected incidents of fraudulent or corrupt conduct of

1-Government ministers,
2-Atoll Chiefs,
3-Directors,
4-Island Chiefs,
5-Majistrators
6-or anyother staff who claims to be a government staff or government owned and cotrolled business enterprises (namely Dhiraagu, STO, MWSC, FSM, STELCO, Maldives Airports Company, Customs, Maldives Ports Authority, etc).

You can report any corrupt coducts or fraud by anymeans mentioned below to the Anti- Corruption Board

1- by a letter,
2- by email,
3- by phone,
4- or reporting directly to the board member

Rember that you are not alone and your name will not be published in any document and its known by staffs who is responsible for investigating the case.
